Is Samsung Galaxy A51 Still Worth Buying Today?

Samsung Galaxy A51 is one of the best selling Android phones in 2020. Why? You may be wondering. The thing is, Samsung decided to pack some flagship features into a midrange phone.

I’m not saying that A51 has all the bells and whistles you’d find in the likes of Galaxy S20 Ultra. No! For those extra features, you’ll have to pay more.

Galaxy A51 is for you if you don’t care about wireless charging, QHD Display, the best camera in the market, or dual speakers.

Without further ado, let’s look at how Samsung  Galaxy A51 scores in the 6 areas that matter to most consumers…

Design

Samsung Galaxy A51, just like it’s predecessor, has a plastic body that looks and feels premium. At 158.5mm tall, less than 8mm thick and weighing 172g the phone fits perfectly in pocket and won’t tire your palm.

If you are looking for convenience, Samsung has retained power and volume buttons on the right and Dual SIM and Memory Card slot on the left!

To top it up, you have a loud firing speaker at the bottom, Type C USB charger and a headphone jack.

Display

Full HD Super AMOLED, Infinity-O Display is how you 🏆6.5 inch Full HD Super AMOLED screen

Performance

Has a midrange Samsung Processor (snappy at fast but slows down especially when multitasking)

Has 4Gb RAM, 128 GB ROM and a card slot that supports up to 512GB

Runs Android 10 with Samsungs latest UI that is One UI 2.1

Camera

At the phone’s price range, you are justified to expect some low-quality camera on Samsung Galaxy A51. On the contrary, A51 camera setup is better than what you’d find on phones in the price range and even compares to what you’d find on some flagship device.

Samsung’s Quad Rear Camera setup on Galaxy A51 consists of

    • 48mp for vivid shots,
    • a 12mp ultra-wide sensor to capture more of your subject,
    • 5mp depth sensor to focus on the subject and blur everything else and
    • 5mp macro sensor for up-close shots

You also get a 32mp Selfie camera with a wider angle option. The wider angle allows you to fit in a friend in your selfie; very convenient for group selfies if you are into such things.

Samsung Galaxy A51 Camera

What makes the A51 Cameras to stand out is the ability to record 4K videos. See, 4K video recording with features like video stabilization are the preserve of flagship phones. Yet, Samsung offers them even on the front camera.

Galaxy A51 has Portrait mode on both the front and rear cameras. And, of course, you can take photos in pitch darkness and still get clear pictures using the night mode.

Is the camera perfect? Nope, it struggles with night mode and the macro camera use is so limited. Also, colors on the photos tend to be over-saturated in some cases and washed out in others.

The bottom line, for the price, Samsung Galaxy A51 gives you more than you are paying for.

Battery life

15W charger (the phone charges up to 100% in about 1hr and 30 mins)

4000mAh battery (so optimized it’ll give you about 15hours of nonstop video watching and can take you up to two days on normal use)

Why do you think that is? Well, Samsung nailed a few things this time around with their midrange phone.  A51 is

Great

Samsung Galaxy A51 scores more than a midrange phone when it comes to Camera, Display, and battery life. However, the phone slows down just after a few months use, it's made of plastic (no wireless charging) and the fingerprint isn't as reliable as it should. Considering the price, Galaxy A51 gives you more than you are paying for hence a good investment.
